On April 26, Professor Stephen Mortimer, Associate Dean (Internationalization) Faculty of Business, Law and Art & Deputy Head: Winchester School of Art of Southampton University visited Xiamen University School of Law. Vice Dean Professor Zhu Yansheng welcomed the guest.
On March 21, XMU law school and Southampton law school has signed the MOU concerning student exchange, scholarship, summer program and other issues. The cooperation program will be launched soon. This visit by Professor Stephen Mortimer is to explore more opportunities of cooperation in terms of co-research and faculty links.
Professor Stephen Mortimer said that Southampton is one of the busiest seaports in Britain which provide advantage of research in maritime law, the discipline which Southampton prides of. Xiamen is also the important seaport in China. There is much ground of collaboration for the both sides to work on this field. Southampton could also hold Skype conference for Xiamen and Southampton students frequently to help them share teaching and research resources.
Vice Dean Zhu gave a detailed outline on the faculty, students, teaching program, summer program of XMU law school and invited the faculty members of Southampton to come to Xiamen for teaching in the summer semester.
They also discussed on the specific issues on how to progress on the signed MOU between two sides.
The University of Southampton has a distinguished heritage that can be traced back to the creation of the Hartley Institution in 1862. Today, the University is already one of the top 15 research universities in the UK and has achieved consistently high scores for its teaching and learning activities.
The University of Southampton is a member of the Russell Group of research universities and the Worldwide Universities Network. It currently has over 17,000 undergraduate and 7,000 postgraduate students, making it the largest university by higher education students in the South East region. The main campus is located in the Highfield area of Southampton. Four other campuses are located throughout the city alongside the School of Art based in nearby Winchester.
