XMU-Guantao International Law Forum (“Forum” for short), organized by XMU International Law Research Institution (also known as XMU International Law Innovation Team), continued to conduct academic lectures and academic lunch meeting in the second week this semester.
On March 5th, Gu Bin, Deputy Professor of Law School of BFSU (Beijing Foreign Studies Universities), gave a remarkable lecture on AIIB Law and Global Managerial Reform, hosted by Prof. Cai Congyan. The lecture revolved around four concerns, which are “Is AIIB a bank of China?”, “How to study AIIB?”, “Is there any innovations about AIIB?”, and “Does AIIB have connections to BRI?”. Prof. Gu especially pointed out AIIB’s differences from other multilateral development institutions, its history and current conditions, practical operation (e.g. Voting rights, decision-making mechanism, and project selection), as well as special institutional arrangements. Prof. Xu Chongli, Prof. Han Xiuli, Prof. Chen Huiping, Vice Prof. Chen Xinfu, and Deputy Prof. Yangfan, as well as Ph.D. candidates of International Law, attended the lecture and had a lively discussion with Deputy Prof. Gu over AIIB decision-making authority distribution and decision mechanism.
On March 7th, a report How does local government handle globalization: local governments’ issues in international economic treaties, was presented by Prof. Cai Congyan during the academic lunch meeting. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate reconstituted relationship between central governments and local governments, as well as the interaction between international economic treaties in the process of globalization, showing an effort to advance the study of China foreign relations law.
The Forum, with a purpose to set up an active, open, and diverse academic communication mechanism, has managed to enhance not only long-term potentials for International Law Department, but academic growth for those young teachers and doctors especially.
