University of Southampton is one of XMU Law School’s collaborative partners. On the afternoon of 5th this month, Brenda Hannigan, Dean of Southampton Law School, as well as Dr. Zhang Jingbo, a teacher of Southampton Law School, paid an academic visiting to XMU Law School and gave a brilliant lecture on “Regulation of Group Insolvencies”, followed by a seminar which Dean Song and Vice Dean He attended.

Prof. Hannigan is an expert in the field of British corporate law and has published a great number of researches and literatures so far. In the lecture, Prof. Hannigan combined her opinions with the latest legal cases of British Supreme Court and shared her own comprehension on the conflicts regarding jurisdiction over multinational group insolvencies, as well as compared among English law, EU law, and UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-border Insolvency. Prof. Hannigan and Prof. Xiao had a lively discussion with students over the issue of multinational group insolvencies afterwards. Apart from that, Dr. Zhang Jingbo introduced to students the academic and exchange programs between University of Southampton and XMU.

In the seminar, Dean Song elaborated on profiles of XMU Law School, as well as on its development objectives and plans in the coming years. Prof. Hannigan believed that two law schools could make a further attempt on academic cooperation based on shared ideas and values.

XMU Law School and University of Southampton signed an agreement in March 2016 on exchange programs and scholarship.
