During Nov. 4th to 5th, ‘New Silk Road Law Schools Alliance Annual Meeting 2017 & International Conference on Legal Education Reform’ had been held in the Law School of WHU. The conference, sponsored by New Silk Road Law Schools Alliance and operated by Law School of WHU, gathered over twenty professors and deans from law schools of prestigious universities in different countries, such as China, U.S., Russia, Finland, Australia, South Africa and Israel. Deputy Dean Prof. Zhu attended the conference on behalf of Law School of XMU, briefing the representatives with the updates concerning internationalization of XMU’s legal education.
The seminar conducted on Nov. 4th was revolving around ‘Development of Legal Education in New Times’, where Prof. Zhu had illustrated his opinions by associating XMU’s current state with new situations confronted by present legal education. He pointed out that legal education needs to combine itself with the objectives of national legal system construction on three different levels: Scientific research, elite training and social service. In addition, it had been emphasized that breakthrough in regional barriers and active communications should be promoted among law schools with diverse characteristics, as well as the exploration of different kinds.
Later that night, under the invitation from Prof. Zhu, Prof. Shen, the Dean of SDU’s Law School, Prof. Broude, the Director of Human Right Center in HUJ, and Prof. Zhang, the assistant of dean of XJU’s Law School, jointly gave a lecture about problems existing in the international economics and trade, along with their solutions. Prof. Zhu shared his comprehension and opinions on the topic ‘Certainty & Equality: Settlement to Cross Border Tax Disputes’.
New Silk Road Law Schools Alliance, launched by more than 20 different law schools of comprehensive universities across the globe, was founded in 2015. It currently has 23 members from 14 different countries, including Law School of XMU. Aiming at achievement of the Belt and Road Initiatives, the alliance dedicates to cooperation in the field of legal education and study in various ways, such as discussions between teachers and students, joint operation of schools and share of information regarding laws. With continuing progress and breakthrough brought by the Belt and Road Initiatives, this conference played a significant role in the international cooperation of legal education and in reactions to the Initiatives, as well as in the dissemination of spirit of the Silk Road. Alliance members will keep close contact to each other and reinforcement cooperation and communication in the legal field.
