The second day of the summer exchange programme was not short of excitement and sensitization. The advent of the second class of the programme was on the Introduction of the Chinese Legal system and a more practical session followed on maintaining a serene balance between the body and the mind via the practice of Chinese Martial Arts, Tai Chi.

The introduction of the Chinese Legal system by Professor Zhu Xiaoqin was a vivid and summarised presentation on the sources, hierarchy, jurisdictions and other basic Chinese law topics so as to present in brief the total makeup of the Chinese legal system. In view of Professor Xiaoqin’s vast knowledge on the Chinese legal system, the lecture was very well delivered and excellently explained with the use of practical examples for the sake of clarity. The class after a fairly interactive question and answer session went on recess to resume in the afternoon for their practical martial arts class.

The second session for the day which was more practical on Tai Chi, Chinese Martial Arts by Associate Professor Li Rensong from XMU PE Faculty. With an outdoor venue confirmed, the activity did not only promise to be exciting but also challenging for the participants who had little knowledge on balancing the mind and the body. The lesson on Tai Chi lived up to expectation as the participants kept their concentration and focus solely on the Tai Chi master throughout the two hours of practice. The master taking the students through the drills explained what every step and movement of the hand meant so as to create an understanding in the mind of the participants.

Ending the day’s sessions at 4:30pm, the participants had dinner at the University Canteen and retreated to their hotel to rest and gather strength for the next day’s tour through the Xiamen Township. The participants will be visiting some famous and educative tourist centres in Xiamen so as to have a taste of Xiamen’s rich culture and view the beautiful township.
