On March 18th, a seminar revolving around “Personal Career and Opportunities in Law Firms” was conducted jointly by Financial Law Study Center of XMU Law School (FLSC for short) and Fujian Yuanda League Law Firm. The seminar was arranged in a conference room at Wuyuanwan Cultural Creative Area.
More than 20 guests, including distinguished professors such as Prof. Liu Zhiyun, director of FLSC, prestigious lawyers such as Lin Jianzhang, manager of Lefeng Law Firm, as well as certain postgraduates and Ph.D. candidates, attended the seminar.
In the very beginning of the seminar, Mr. Lin told about how his law firm was founded and his own career path. After 8 years working in Tianheng Law Firm, Mr. Lin decided to set up his own business. By virtue of his profession and competence, as well as the spirit of persistence, the business kept picking up and the number of his clients soared, which made him gain more fame and respect.
It is pointed out by Mr. Lin that personal law firms have been occupying a large proportion in foreign countries. Due to rising market demand for legal service and conflict between law firm partners, domestic individual law firms have gained rapid growth and prosperity in the past few years. At the same time, those firms are struggling with a series of problems. For example, individual law firms find it difficult to attract competent lawyers, and government tends to have large firms, rather than individual legal firms, to be their first choice for legal consultance and other service .
In Q&A, some of Ph.D. candidates and postgraduates came up with a couple of questions concerning career development and priorities in their study, and it was suggested that students should allocate time reasonably between study priorities and things less important. It is knowledge, writing skills and problem-solving skills that students should focus on.
