During celebration of the 97th anniversary of XMU, International Law Innovation Team of XMU Law School held a seminar on April 6th, revolving around “the Belt and Road Initiative in the Perspective of International Law”. It was organized and hosted by Prof. Han Xiuli, Director of the International Law Study Institute. The guests included distinguished professors and well-known lawyers, such as Xv Xiaobing, a senior researcher from the Law of the Sea Study Center of SJTU, and he was also the Director of Human Right Study Center. An Shouzhi, one of the partners of Guantao Law Firm, also attended the seminar.
It was pointed out by Prof. Han on her keynote speech that learning to think in the perspective of international law can help understand and boost implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. On the other hand, the Belt and Road Initiative can in turn help push the development of international law. On Xv Xiaobing’s lecture, he illustrated his ideas about the Belt and Road Initiative and the principle of non- interference in internal affairs. He demonstrated what the principle is and how it had been carried out practically, especially Maldives Model. Prof. Chen Huiping elaborated both international and domestic path in the investment in legal construction on her speech. Prof. Chi Manjiao, starting his lecture with the Belt and Road Initiative, analyzed issues concerning growth of international law and investment law, and he respectively expounded fairness, equal treatment, and transparency inside conflict resolving in the field of international law.
Prof. Pan Junwu gave a speech regarding how to produce outstanding and competent law students under the Belt and Road Initiative. He shared some of his specific thoughts and advice on how China’s law education should be run. Mr. An, one the partners of Guantao Law Firm, showed how Chinese lawyers should function in international law conflict resolving, and analyzed what Chinese lawyers should do in different phases of commercial arbitration. Prof. Yufei, relating her experience in teaching and researching to the lecture, came up with several ideas on how to carry out the Belt and Road Initiative.
At the end of the seminar, Prof. Chi Manjiao summarized it by suggesting both lawyers and scholars conduct further researches concerning relevant issues.
This seminar, holding on to open and multivariate mechanism, invited professionals from both academic circle and practical law field. It promoted the growth of international law, as well as that of teachers and students.
